De Tour De Sibu - Part 1

Located in the central region of Sarawak, Sibu is a gateway to many other small towns, the upstream of Batang Rajang. This fast growing town is populated by about 270,000 people. Sibu can be reached by air, land or water from Kuching, the capital city of the state. Do not miss the wonderful adventure in Sibu - sightseeing, good food and great hospitality.

Here is my Part 1: De Tour De Sibu
Jalan Channel is the busiest street in town. During peak hour, one can stick in heavy traffic. It is a truly amazing street. You can find people from all walks of life here - old to young, regardless the races.

Uncles crossing the road. A main routine for senior citizen patrolling the market and coffee shop behind. Here is also a very quiet town for retirement.
In time, one can see hundreds and hundreds motorbike parked here. Many times the motorbikes will outdo the cars along the street too

Pintu Gerbang Sibu - Sibu Gateway, a nature symbol alongside with Lin's Garden.

Lin's Garden housed 12 Chinese zodiac. The above is just part of it.

The Yu's Dolphin Mascot, located opposite of the central market, Sibu

 Officiated by...

The dolphin was chosen as Ho Kang and Yu Clan Association to symbolize freedom, joy, grace and serenity.

Beautifully crafted stone balls.
The Sibu Central Market, the 2-storey market is the biggest market in town. It is divided into two sections - the wet and the dry market. The upper floor is also divided into 2 sections - food stalls and clothing stalls
There is a restaurant above the multi storey car park.

Local selling fresh produce from the village nearby. The green veggies in the picture have a bitter taste. I like to boil soup with that veggies. Local call it "ensabi".

The bamboo stem is for "Pansoh" - food cook in bamboo stem, a very delicious dish. Meat and vegetables blend together and put into the stem, then cook on the fire (slow fire).

Some other green leafy veggies.

To be continued...

 Happy reading!
